Joseph receives the Plates from Angel Moroni - the fall of 1827. Moroni, the last of the Nephite prophets, inscribed on gold plates an eyewitness account of his nation’s total destruction. It is recorded how Moroni buried the plates, in Hill Cumorah in upstate New York in 427AD. He returned as a heavenly messenger to deliver these sacred records to the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose translation is called The Book of Mormon. Angel Moroni stands atop many Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The statue is a symbol of John the Revelator’s vision where he records, “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth.” (Revelations 14:6; Doctrine and Covenants 133:36-37) In his left hand, he holds close to his heart the golden plates, which contain sacred writings known as The Book of Mormon. Captain Moroni became the commander of the Nephite army at the young age of 25. He is best known for the "Title of Liberty" which he made by tearing off a piece of his coat and writing on it: "In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children." The Book of Mormon tells how he used this flag to rally his people toward righteousness. The Book of Mormon tells us..." Nephi was a man of great faith. He was large in stature, a skilled craftsman who built weapons, tools, and the ship that sailed his family across the ocean to the promised land. As a prophet of the Lord, he was a humble leader who sought divine direction. He pleaded with the wicked to soften their hearts towards God.
